Pagoda at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Gardens

XiShuangBanna Tropical Botanical Gardens

Situated near Menglun Township in Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Gardens cover an area of 1,100ha and are home to 12,000 species of plant. This includes many rare and endangered plant species.

Thanks to its location in south-west China, near the border of Laos and Myanmar, this is the only tropical rainforest in the PRC. The tropical gardens are surrounded on three sides by the LuoSuo River, which runs into Laos, becoming a tributary of the Mekong Delta.

The site is divided into a botanical garden and a rainforest area. The gardens are further divided into sections by plant type. The larger area is a virgin rainforest, with slippery walkways guiding you to the highlights. These include a strangling vine and a ‘Huge Woody’ to stare at if that’s your thing.
