Yet another long day driving uphill returned us to Mexico and a small town called San Cristóbal de las Casas, 2300m above sea level. The difference in altitude was immediately apparent as we walked up and down the hilly streets. This was quite a touristy town and whilst clean and pleasant, wasn’t really that interesting and I got the feeling the locals were only wearing their traditional dress because they were told to rather than through preference.
The highlight of the stay came on the second night when we left the group sipping their by now standard issue mojitos and headed to a local nightclub a long way off the tourist trail where we were treated like VIPs with our own platform overlooking the whole disco and a dedicated waiter only too eager to keep our drinks topped up way too far into the night.
