Following the previous years success we were invited back to Tallinn to defend the title.
Tour awards were as follows:
“Man of Tour” Award – Jon Thorne – really, if you don’t know why where were you all weekend…..
“Man of the Tournament” Award – Steve Brett – he sounds like a Radio 1 DJ, he has sad eyes, couldn’t walk at the end of most nights, but…..he played his heart out each game making big hits in defence and getting round the pitch when the rest of us just wanted to nap (or throw up) on the sideline.
“Llywelyn ap Gwilym Angriest on Tour” Award – Shane – there were a few up for this (myself included for my petulance to the referee) but Shane secured this one after Sunday night….4,000 scheckles (or whatever the currency is) is a lot of money…
“Llywelyn ap Gwilym Not So Angriest on Tour” Award – Llywelyn – there was one occasion when he got angry – but he apologised to the other individual within 5 mins. He’s a different man now the anger has been curbed and everyone noticed and commented on this – he didn’t even moan when he was subbed which was disappointing as we were filming him waiting for the reaction…..
“Unsung Hero” Award – Steve Whale – he found the Brazilian restaurant before we went, he researched the best bars to go to (although to be fair we didn’t go to any because “Nimeta” was so good!). He also filmed the games which I have to say are pretty good….and further to this is putting together a DVD for everyone – awesome work.
“Dufus” Award – Fraser – spending time with him is a mix of wanting to pull your teeth out, hanging your head in shame and laughing until your ribs break…. Dufus is a hard act to follow but I feel he entertained us all which was summed up at the airport of the video of him doing a Daniel Craig / James Bond impression coming out of the sea on holiday – please send this round Fraser so everyone can have a look.
“Best Ref on Tour but worst Director of Rugby” Award – Goodbody – to be fair he was a lot, lot, lot, lot, lot, lot better than the Russian fella. However, in his capacity of Director of Rugby he was caught on camera saying “this is the worst game of 10’s rugby I have ever seen” and also saying “this is the worst game of rugby ever”. It’s always good to have the management fully supporting the team…..
