Udaipur is a beautiful town, set between three lakes and a multitude of palaces. Their primary business seems to be separating me from my money, having bought more in one day than the last three months driving across Asia. Very happy with the made-to-measure shirts knocked up in 4 hours though. Not so sure about the calf-length board shorts with pleats and a razor sharp crease down the front.
I also had my third haircut of the trip in Udaipur – it started at a haircut and progressed into a shave and threading followed by an excessive head and neck massage including the rarely seen technique of the masseur taking a good run up and punching the back of the shoulders. Anyway, it’s a much better haircut than those I got in Dunhuang and Khiva and even cheaper at just $2.
That evening we went to a culture dance show in a local palace which was pretty impressive if only for the lady dancing with 9 pots on her head which she then set on fire…
This is also where Octopussy was filmed so all the bars in town show Octopussy at 7pm but won’t serve alcohol, so watched it with Chana Masala on baked potato washed down with lemon soda (lime juice with soda water and either salt or sugar).
