New Years Day – Siem Reap, Cambodia

Angkor

A strangely subdued team got together far too early in the morning for a trip out to supposedly the most beautiful of the temples – a pink sandstone creation. It turned out to be a very unphotogenic pile of rubble and we spent the time trying to wake up whilst comparing stories from the New Years Eve celebrations. Unfortunately we also remembered that photos were being taken so managed to corroborate all the earlier stories with unflattering pictures.

On the way back we dropped in at a landmine museum and palm sugar factory. Neither were interesting enough to divert us from the merciless ribbing brought on by the next batch of photos.

Finally we came to a more pyramidal temple and the seventy degree stairs cut out the chatter. Until we got to the top.

On the way back to the hotel in Siem Reap we spied an advert for a restaurant called the Blue Pumpkin, with the enticing promise of being able to lie in bed and eat food (off a hospital type bed tray).

About 2 hours and a good meal later we were much more ready to face the world, but walking out from the air conditioning into the afternoon heat instead went back and lazed by the pool.
