Before leaving Williams we visited the old train station that used to ferry rich tourists to the edge of the rand Canyon. Whilst there we watched a funny Wild West show then headed off down Route 66, via a Harley Davidson dealership, towards Laughlin and another casino town.
Mr Laughlin built a bridge from Arizona to Nevada, over the Colorado river, and placed a casino right at the end. This has grown into the Aquarius resort, which despite being a recommended hospice for old gamblers is actually a much more fun place to gamble than Las Vegas. All the games have lower limits and the croupiers are much friendlier.
There was also a normal shopping mall with real shops, rather than the Louis Vuitton and Versace of Vegas. I took the opportunity to stock up on cheap clothes and despite all the recent steaks didn’t need to visit the Casual XL store – ‘sizes up to 86″ waist!’
Snappily dressed we headed back to the casino for an extended bout of roulette, where I managed to do rather well to the extent that the casino started giving me free drinks, before having to leave for the buffet. I’m not sure whether it was the free cocktails or too much shrimp, but I went back to the tables and gave back all my profits. Still, a great night out for less than £30.
