Great hotel in Hué but despite being exhausted we went straight out for slow brunch then boat ride.
Visited the Thien Mu Pagoda which stands on the northern bank of the Perfumed River. A building to the rear also house the Austin car used by Thích Quang Duc, the monk who burnt himself to death in 1963 to protest against the persecution of Buddhists by the government.
Later the boat dropped us off at the forbidden city in which we narrowly avoided a musical cultural display which seemed to annoy the museum guide beyond all proportion enough that two of the girls caved and went in. We sat on a hill outside and caught the occasional note – it was awful.
Free from the tour guides tyrannical grasp we headed into town and towards the local market, which held the promise of excellent fake watches, which none of us wanted. The market rows were very narrow and after making eye contact with a trader we got abducted up to a second level to look at t-shirts. Making our second escape of the day we were trapped watching a kid peeing for Vietnam before we could jump over the resulting lake and run downstairs.
Sat in a bar then the girl’s room to put the world to rights. Don’t think it worked.
