Drove back to Karakol for another homestay and a felt-making demonstration, which is more fun than it sounds as it seems to involve a lot of dancing on the new carpets to squash the water out. Whilst there we met the Iranian National Mountaineering team, who seemed to be taking some time out from scaling the peaks of the world to buy some felt rugs.
We walked from the felt factory to the local animal market – not as widespread as Kashgar but far more picturesque, and the locals seemed very eager to pose for cheesy photos.
Back at the homestay we immersed ourselves in local culture by watching Mad Max on DVD.
