Since leaving London in 2006 I’ve travelled, worked, volunteered and lived in over 90 countries.
Highlights so far would be driving along the Silk Road from Beijing to Istanbul, a complete circuit of South America and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Costa Rica. I’m currently back in Beijing, as a base to visit more of Asia and attempt to learn Mandarin. Read more

Hey Steve! Awesome pictures.
I’m currently living in Beijing and I would like some tips. You took a flight to Sichuan and than travel by car to Jiuzhai Valley? How did you manage to arrange that?
Tkss!
We hired an excellent driver, recommended by H’s relations in Sichuan. When we went he said he was retiring very soon, so probably isn’t available any more sadly. The best way is probably to search through the Chengdu/Chongqing (or wherever you’re flying into) expat forums and ask for recommendations.
Prices are quite high if you get a driver plus 4×4.
The alternative is just to fly into Songpan and take a taxi to the valley.
Hi, these pictures are absolutely stunning!!
I would love to know – what kind of camera are you using?
I will be spending quite a bit of time in these areas of sichuan over the next few months and have no camera to speak of.
Thanks, Grace.
Mostly with a Canon 5D SLR, but also a Canon S100 compact, which is great for travel as it has a GPS and tags the location of any photos
