After a couple of days travelling by bus I spent a night in the modern little town of Yinchuan, right in the middle of nowhere, to do some laundry. Nothing special, but went out for barbeque in the evening.
For lunch I ate a meat that looked like thin strips of chicken, heavily spiced and very, very chewy. Wrote down the menu entry and got it translated back in the hotel. Turns out it was dog cartilage and tendons. Yum.
By way of compensation I went to Pizza Hut in the evening, which made my day as they had knives and forks and I was suddenly king of the restaurant, watching the Chinese trying to scoot pizza round the plate with a knife, then giving up and just biting into it face first.
