Bodie and Cedric – Lone Pine, California, United States

Bodie Church

Bodie Church

Long drive today over the 9600ft Sonora Pass but with a couple of interesting stops.

Bodie is a ghost town that used to be a mining community in the late 1800’s. It’s now full of old wooden buildings being preserved, but the most interesting part if the cemetery which shows the rapid changes in population and rather short lifespan of most of the inhabitants.

At Mono Lake we were given a tour by Ranger Cedric, a big man with very tight trousers who dressed to the left. It used to be the main source of water for Los Angeles, until they overused it and it dried up. Now it’s a nesting habitat for a select few birds.

That evening we dined in a steakhouse, the walls of which were covered in photos of all the films stars who ate there whilst making westerns in the vicinity.
