Would you like a fork sir? – Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Hong Kong Skyline

Had a long day of testing Hong Kong’s transport system – the MTR underground is excellent and really easy to use. Took the Star Ferry over to the Kowloon waterfront, which I thought gave a better view of the city than Victoria Peak.

Found a sign leading to Nathan Road, which is Hong Kong’s ‘Golden Mile’, probably because of the smell of urine from every side street, but fortunately a heavy rainstorm came and washed most of it away.

I ducked into a little restaurant where I saw my first plate of duck tongues. They also had fish bladders, but I was pretty tired and went for the safer option of wasabi beef and prawn balls*

*Note: Never walk into a restaurant and tell the waitress you’ll be fine with chopsticks. It’s inevitably followed by the whooshing sound of your prawn ball flying through the air and a gentle rumble as it rolls across the floor, followed by the dripping with sarcasm: “Would you like a fork, sir”

As dusk fell I walked back through Temple Street Market as all the neon signs lit up and got back to the waterfront in time to see the lights of the buildings on the opposite bank pulsate in time to a pretty good soundtrack.
