Victoria Falls from Botswana and Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls

Went from Botswana into Zimbabwe to get the best view of Victoria Falls. As we cleared the border crossing we saw some extremely rare African Wild Dogs, but the real joy was seeing how excited Kevin and Francis got at the sighting. Also saw a Sable antelope, but were more worried by the angry elephant blocking the road.

When we arrived in the town called Victoria Falls we rented a cape to protect us from the rain. Possibly the worst $3 ever spent, but it did give us the opportunity to look even more stupid in photos. There had been heavy rain a few days before so the falls were running at maximum – apparently 1,000,000 gallons of water every second. The size and sound was incredible, so the photos don’t really do it justice.

As you get closer to the edge of the surrounding cliff the spray rises like a warm torrential downpour, rendering the ponchos useless, and soaking clothes and cameras, and putting rainbows everywhere you look.
