Jumbo Floating Restaurant – Aberdeen, Hong Kong

Jumbo Floating Restaurant Aberdeen Hong Kong

Caught the bus to Aberdeen on the southern side of the island today. It’s a little fishing port with a couple of enormous restaurants floating in the center. Took a Sampan over to the Jumbo Floating Restaurant, but got soaked by a boat going the other way so had to sit in a smart restaurant smelling of harbour water.

Tried the pork in Special Chinese Sauce, which tasted suspiciously like one part HP Sauce to two parts Bisto. Also had chicken and cashew nuts. If I managed to forget which dish was which they’d kindly left the chickens head on the plate for easy identification. It was dyed yellow and had it’s beak open in a painful looking squawk. Having read somewhere that a chicken will run around for some time after you chop the head off, I couldn’t help but stare at it in case it blinked.

In an effort to use different forms of transport I tried to get the tram back, but just couldn’t fathom out which was going where, so reverted to a bus which stopped suddenly and turfed everyone out at the municipal basketball courts.
