Biggest sand dune in the world – Sesriem, Namibia

Sossusvlei in Namibia

Sossusvlei in Namibia

After a long drive across the featureless Namib desert we arrived at Sesriem and my favourite campsite. Here we drank warm beer and played the locals on a dilapidated pool table long into the evening.

The next day we got up early to walk over dune 44 to Dead Vlei, a clay pan near the salt pan of Sossusvlei to watch the sun rise over the eerie ex-lakebed full of dead trees, before walking to the famous Dune 45 and running down it.
