We’ve reached our last stop in Georgia – Batumi on the coast of the Black Sea, about 20km from the border with Turkey.
Over the last few days we’ve mostly been camping in the rain, visiting a very badly maintained and therefore quite scary fun park, plus looking at dinosaur footprints.
We also visited Stalins home town of Gori, where there’s a museum detailing his achievements, but they seemed to gloss over the period where he killed 23,000,000 of his own people with ‘a few mistakes were made’.
Last night we stayed in a Georgian family home and had another night of wine and constant toasts.
Highlight of the last week (beside a brief respite in the rain this afternoon) was visiting Uplistsikhe, a cave city built in the 16th Century BC, or 16 years Before Christmas as our guide put it.
This was followed by spending the night at an observatory. The Georgian weather prevented us from actually looking through the telescope, but it was fun to meet the ever-so-enthusiastic, if slightly nerdy astronomers, who seemed confused that a group containing real life girls seemed to be in the same building as them.
