Seventeen hours in Salta – Salta, Argentina

Road to Salta

The seventeen hour bus ride to Salta was mostly overnight, and thanks to getting a fully reclining bed I managed to sleep through the worst of it. The late morning section was pretty uninspiring so I was glad to arrive an hour early at lunchtime and meet up with the others. Whilst I’d been to Easter Island they’d been to an estancia near Cafayate, riding horses, lassoing cows and eating BBQ. All sounds good, but I’m glad I went to see the moais whilst I’m here.

Salta itself seemed quite nice, but the appeal of the much vaunted cathedral was tempered for me when the clock tower struck the hour. Rather than a rich peal of bells we were treated to a little tune from a Bontempi organ.

Over dinner we decided to return to Chile and visit San Pedro and the Atacama Desert. Following a frenzy of ticket booking at 2am we had a short night’s sleep to catch the bus at 7am.
