Offroading in Moab

Offroading in Moab

We spent the day hiking round the Arches National Park. A quick wander down Park Avenue, named after the skyscraper sized towers lining each side, was followed by the highlight – Delicate Arch. Nearing the top of a long steep hill you inch round a ledge to come across the first view of the arch. It’s then a bit tricky to get down onto the same level but worth it for the obligatory photo of you standing under the arch.

Not quite as spectacular, but worth the effort were the hikes round the North and South Arch and the Arch Turret, followed by a late afternoon hike over to the by now golden Double Arch – a wasted opportunity for McDonalds advertising I feel.

That evening we boarded an ex-army Hummer for a two hour ride across the ridge and down the ridiculously steep hills of the Moab desert park.

Arriving late back in town we headed for another microbrewery called Eddie McStiffs, where the surly waiter made our lives miserable, until we headed to the bar next door and bought a Utah State drinking licence, meaning that for the next 30 days I was obliged to drink 3 beers a day. Not sure if that was a maximum or mandatory, but you may as well get your moneys worth…
