I eventually caught up with the others in a small town called Poconé and still feeling ill stayed in a hotel whilst they went to the Pantanal for 2 nights. This is a wildlife rich area, similar to that which we visited in Venezuela and will see again in Chile, so I didn’t feel I was missing out on much. Instead I stayed indoors with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a working toilet.
The second day started with a 6 hour long power cut, so deprived of air conditioning and Wi-Fi I stared at the (non-rotating) ceiling fan and listened to the Doors:
